In 2020 Mt Hotham RMB installed a glass conveyor sorting station and pulveriser, significantly reducing the financial and environmental cost of nearly 70,000 tonnes of glass waste generated each year in the resort.
Rather than spending more than $20,000 dollars a year to ship and recycle the waste, the resort began using it on roads and tracks to combat ice.
The new equipment will allow MHARMB to use pulverised glass for sealing road verges and car parks, as aggregate in concrete, as a substitute for road grit, and on tracks and trails.
